Description:
The Merry-Go- Round Youth Theatre is seeking an intern to assist with the various administrative tasks of their touring operation, as well as their afterschool arts programming.
About the Company:
The touring component of the Youth Theatre brings the Sequential Dramatics Program directly into school buildings throughout New York State. The Sequential Dramatics Program is a series of performances and workshops provided by professional actors and designed to support the Common Core and the New York State standards of learning through theatre. Each component of the program is customized to meet the unique needs of educators and students at each grade level, K-12 and to provide distinctive theatrical experiences to increase theatrical literacy, appreciation and participation. The Sequential Dramatics program will reach 125,000 students this academic year. This comprehensive program serves 72 school districts in 24 Upstate New York Counties.
The newest addition to our education division is the Merry-Go- Round Junior Stars Program. At the elementary school level, there are few in-school opportunities to gain foundational building blocks in the performing arts. To this end, we created an afterschool program for students in grades K-6 to give them the opportunity to develop as young artists. Additionally, students are working on critical 21st Century skills such as collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication. The Junior Stars program provides children the opportunity to blend process and product.
